On August 9th, from 9am until noon, the Kern County Department of Child Support Services held their 9th Annual Ready, Set, Back-2School Health & Wellness Fair at the Kern County Fair Grounds. This is a free community event held every year and it is aimed at the wonderful goal of getting children and families connected to the services that they may need.
In addition to giving away 4000 backpacks, filled with school supplies to children K through 12, there were a variety of other services available at no cost to attendees. Children could receive a back to school haircut and immunizations, legal services were available as well as nutrition and health information. The Bakersfield Police Department had a fun way to engage with the kids through Buddy, the (remote controlled) police dog.
This, as always, was a huge event for the community and the turnout was amazing. It was fantastic to see everyone come together for such an amazing event. BBHH was happy to be on hand to talk to parents, give out pencils and book marks to kids and we even brought our prize wheel to give out additional goodies.
It was great to see the community come together to support families and help get our kids ready to go back to school!
