In Everything You Do - Care

Hello to all –

With the 2018 year quickly coming to a close I thought this would be the perfect time to start a new series of blogs from all of us here at Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (BBHH). As with the ending of any year and the birth of a new one, we all tend to sit and reflect on the year’s activities. We may contemplate things like; what we accomplished, what we wished we had, who we met, people who touched our lives in some way, what we are thankful for, who we truly love, who we admire, who we would like to aspire to be, things we would like to do differently, or healthy changes for the upcoming new year. Whatever it is that you might be reflecting on at the close of this 2018 year, we at BBHH would like to encourage you to focus on the positive things you have accomplished this past year and think about all of the positive things you will achieve this coming new year.

In keeping in the spirit of reflection, I think back to all BBHH accomplished in the 2018-year and the many positive outcomes which were borne from them. Our hospital celebrated their official Grand Opening and Ribbon cutting ceremony where so many of our friends and community members joined in the celebration. Those in attendance were able to observe all of the aesthetic upgrades that were made to the physical building and property while learning about all of the new programs that were launched to more fully help those in Kern County. Our hospital’s Outpatient programs also received a new name and identity with the new, Stepping Stones Outpatient Services truly flourishing as it has been able to reach out and help so many in our community through outpatient group and individualized therapies. Stepping Stones has adopted BBHH’s holistic approach of healing and recovery through adding such services as Medi-Yoga and Pet Therapy to their daily schedule. They have also expanded their availability to the community by extending their hours, they are now open from 8:30 am – 8:30 pm in order to help more individuals who work and/ or go to school yet still need to utilize our services.

BBHH has also had the privilege of partnering with groups such as; The Autism Society, The Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, Marley’s Miracle Mutts, NAMI Kern County, The Jason Foundation, The Vietnam-Desert Storm-Iraq-Afghanistan Mural project, Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Association, The American Heart Association, and many more. Together we have been able to hold free community educational events throughout the year which has touched the lives of all that attended.

Along with all of the events that BBHH held at the hospital, the individuals of the business development team were never missing when it came to events throughout the Kern County and surrounding areas. They were excited to be a part of school health fairs, the Bakersfield Women’s Conference, The Beautiful Bakersfield Awards, The Teddy Bear Picnic, CASA Derby, Bakersfield Woman’s March, NAMIWalks, National Night Out with KCSD, The K-9 Trials, and several Back to School events. The business development department has also been a part of other community projects such as the Homeless Collaborative and Recovery Round Table, to mention just a few. The desire to be a part of committees throughout Kern that can make a difference to the community that we serve is very important to everyone at BBHH.

With the many lives we encountered, stories that were shared, committees that were started or joined, and events that we were apart of, I can say with certainty that we have had a fruitful 2018 year. As I and the others at BBHH look forward to the 2019 year, I am encouraged by our progress thus far and am certain that we will continue to move forward with our efforts in education, advocacy, and encouragement of promoting good mental health! We are excited to share ways to improve your overall health and how to promote a healthy lifestyle for you and those you love. I look forward to connecting with all of you each week with a new topic of concern or interest. If there is something you would like to know, discuss, or for more information on anything I cover in our weekly blogs, I invite you to reach out to me through our marketing email abk.marketing@bakersfieldbehavioral.com.

Until next week; In Everything you do – CARE
